  17. Notice that the serial port has three output lines (TxD, RTS,
  18. and DTR) which are used to power the op amp, and in some cases,
  19. provide audio output and push-to-talk (PTT).

  21. Different interfaces use different combinations and polarities
  22. for the power.

  38. Note that the earlier systems used the RTS pin for positive (+) 
  39. power and either DTR or TxD for negative (-).

  41. Most later systems have settled on DTR for positive (+).  This  
  42. is the default for EZ SSTV version 3 but the polarity can be
  43. reversed for use with the older interfaces.

  45. To change the polarity, pick "SSTV Interface" from the "Setup"
  46. menu, then click on the "Power" button.

  49. What happens if it is set wrong?
  50.  
  51. 1. Circuits with the transmitter's push-to-talk (PTT) activated
  52.    by the RTS or DTR will turn on the transmitter when the  
  53.    program is in receive mode.
  54.  
  55. 2. An attempt to receive will result in a message that there
  56.    is no receive interface or audio present.  This is because
  57.    the interface is not receiving the necessary power to 
  58.    amplify the audio and apply it to the computer's serial 
  59.    port.
